Much to the surprise of some of my friends, I am currently married. Actually, I'm on my second marriage. None of my marriages have been recognized by legal systems, but hey, I wasn't getting married for tax reasons. This is the story of my second wedding.
On November 15, 1993, while riding a bus in Ottawa, I accepted a proposal from Shar. I believe the exchange went like this:
Shar, to F'jord: "Do you want to get married?"
F'jord: "No."
Shar, to me: "Do you want to marry me, Nikita?"
Nikita: "Sure, why not."
True, there were no rings, but the engagement still stood.
In January 1995, Shar and I were once again in the same city. After a brief conversation:
Nikita: "Do you still want to marry me?"
Shar: "Sure, why not."
We decided to get married during our upcoming trip to Nashville, Tennessee.
Finally, on March 1, 1995, after participating in a programming contest, Shar and I, along with several friends, participated in a wedding ceremony, performed by bishop Moses Moore. Moses read our vows, we repeated them, exchanged our token objects and the bride kissed the bride. I have some pictures of the wedding, courtesy of Zygo.
And we lived happily ever after.
Shar has had quite a number of engagements, you can read about them on her page. She even managed to hold a bona fide wedding in 2000, and I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid. My own marital life has been less exciting, but perhaps I like it that way.
